Today's Conditions Call For
The contrast….
The day started with a trip to the local soccer fields. Parents packed their kids in SUV’s and minivans in order to catch a glimpse of the next greatest talent… A girl who played on my nephews teams who scored at least ten goals today. It is only the 3 –5 year old league, but she is simply amazing. I was shocked to see how one child could dominate a sport above beyond her pears. Today I really got a glance at true greatness.
My voice went south from screaming and yelling. I was a true “soccer mom” minus the mom and insert an “uncle”. As I cheered on my three nephews, I was taken back to my glory days on the pitch. Our team would be loaded with future talent and even better friends. It was just last week I was reveling with a former teammate at my ten year reunion on the dynasty that was the 1985 – 1986 Deltona Killer Bee’s!! Watching my nephews run around the field was more fun for me than I think them. I was with them on every
As I returned home I got the call the beach plans were still on. A short drive out to Cocoa beach and we were officially beach bumming it up for the day. Cocoa Beach is a open container beach which we took full advantage of… Once on the beach I quickly reminisced my trip to Jamaica. Needless to say I was happy you be hearing the sound of the ocean again. It was though I was reunited with a long lost friend…I am turning into “The Old Man & The Sea”
After my moments of nostalgia the real reason we were there started. A little beach volleyball. The first sets of challengers were disposed of quickly. My counterparts and I were playing decent, wait, did I say I….. hmmmmm I think decent is a stretch for the steaming pile of athletic performance that I displayed. A whiff, a service error, bad pass, and a few “my bad’s” pretty much some up my play for the day. If a chain is only as strong as it weakest link, then our chain was just busted!! We managed to scrape out another win. I am pretty sure Dirk did not want to even look at me on the ride home, his disappointment was something I had gotten used to by the end of the day. In my defense, I have not played volleyball competitively since high school; not making an excuse, but this is just a notation. A quick swim in the ocean and we were back on the road.
Hung out in Orlando for a few minutes, but our plans for the night got cut short by a work pager call. No worries, I was exhausted at this point and was happy to be heading home. As I approached my house a few drizzles began to fall. I thought nothing of it as the skies were absolutely clear at the beach. The day was simply amazing and I could not have asked for better beach weather. Almost on cue, as I closed the door behind me, that light drizzle became a full out downpour. I later learned of the massive storm systems that followed me home and left tornado sightings all over Orlando…
Tired, I turned in early as I had a long day ahead of me. As I reflect on the day I notice the contrast that existed…True athletic greatness vs. athletic disgrace…Weather that reminds you of what heaven will be like vs. Rain can ruin anyone’s parade with a quickness!!

Hey O. read your blog from a couple days ago, I certainly can have a go at bringing you up to speed on the Lost plot, but it may take awhile !! I reckon though you could pick up the plot, even by starting in series 3, as they do normally do a load of flashbacks - to pick up earlier plot lines. I am dead jealous that you guys have already got the series started over there, I am sure it will not be till the new year that we can start viewing in littl' ol' England.
Your day sounds so cool to be able to jet to the beach to play about for the day, need to persuade Jr even more strongly to move back to FL, is sounds a charmed lifestyle, (except for the tropical storms).
Thanks for message on my blog ..I told Jr you may be in JAM for Thanksgiving - he said indignantly "WHAT Mom said everyone was going to be together for Thanksgiving this year" so be warned he may give you a hard time next time you are on the phone !!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday..
