Absolute Faith

In absolute truth there is no faith.
Without faith we have no hope.
Without hope we have no dreams.
Without dreams our existence becomes dormant.

During my time here in Jamaica I have been doing quite a bit of meditating on things in life. My interest in others and their religion has been culminated by my quest to understand truth. So much is fed to one that “fact”, is often a matter of perception. As one changes his perspective, also his perception will follow suite. I find myself getting to a place of comfort, only to have a new idea challenge those ideas and send me on another quest. Grasping truth has been like grasping the wind, but maybe it was never meant to be held, only followed.

What is true? What is false? In school T or F test were the easiest or where they? What if you believed what is false to be true? Is it not true to you? The scientific method requires proof for a thesis or idea to become law. Through a system of test it can be proven that 1 + 1 = 2. This is basic equation that proves the idea of addition, because 1 + 1=3 is false. This sets a strong foundation and leaves no room for error in the theory. With no margin error in the theory this is called an absolute truth. Something so true it cannot be proven other wise.

An absolute truth is a great thing to establish. It allows you to place building blocks that advance everything from binary codes in computers to enormous mega structures like the Golden Gate Bridge. These truths often lead us to stay within its parameters that offer safety and consistency. When a person steps on his car brakes, the truths of friction and gravity slow them down. If the car did not stop, the person would be forced to question these theories, as it is the science behind brakes that makes the car stop.

One who has absolute truth has no need for faith. Again and again they can prove their theory by a group of experiments. Those who have a partial truth need faith in order to create an absolute truth in their mind. In their equation X + Y = 2. The question is now to a person of faith is what is that other truth? What is the X? X is infinite seeing it can be an equation within itself. Y can also be infinite seeing that there is no absolute. The only absolute is the end of the equation, which is 2. If I were to say that X = 4 then Y = (-2). This ongoing equation causes would go on for every possible number sequence. Yet it would still return to the absolute truth of the addition law.

How does this affect us in our day-to-day lives? Well we are faced with so many truths daily that it becomes often cloudy to observe the simple ones. Death is an absolute that we can never avoid. It is the end of all equations. Our existence in-between this absolute is what defines the X’s and Y’s of our lives. With every X, we must balance it with a Y in order to complete the equation. As a person of faith you are often faced with a question of the existence of God and his absolute being. This must be balanced with the truths that we know to be true in our lives. This can be very difficult as it seems the entire scientific agenda to is disprove the existence of God. In my equation, God serves as an absolute. I consider myself to have an absolute faith in believing in basic Christian principles. I understand that others may choose to believe strictly in science, or another faith. That’s okay. This is something that has happened since the beginning of time.

It is my belief that this equation will never be solved. If it could be scientifically proven that something supernatural existed, it would disengage the physical world, as we know it. Yet, there are so many signals pointing that something exists beyond our own understanding. This is where one would establish faith. Through it all, they are to many variables to firmly plant your foot in a stronghold and call it an absolute truth. Knowing this, one must take a “leap of faith” and create a foundation of truth in something in order to complete the equation. In my equation, Y = Yahweh. X = all other variables, but my Y never changes.
In my understanding of this principle, it has become obvious to me that this idea is far different than one would be taught in a textbook or church service. Each side has chosen to dismiss the other as they feel Science and God cannot co-exist. I beg to differ. I believe that they scratch each other’s back without even looking!! I think in years to come, a bridge will be made to understand our world along with a greater understanding of our creator. Until then, it will be a choice of faith in what you choose to, or not to believe.

Interesting blog entry O, not sure if controvesy has blown up in the US over the movie the DaVinci code?
there are a few people standing up to say the film is blasphemous, but they are in the minority which is sad.

Your Mum looks so pretty in your earlier blog, I have not seen home in Florida for awhile, it made me want to come and visit the rose bush !

Hope you are watching the football tonight !

I agree with your comment on my blog.. I cannot quite decide between Catherine or Taylor, although I guess you will know tonight who survives the public vote for American Idol, as it does not air in the UK till Friday ! can't wait to find out
