Down with love!!
Plecia nearctica
The love bugs are back.
I hate love bugs. I have know idea why God created them, he must have been just seeing what would happen if you stuck two bugs together and told them to paste themselves on as many cars as possible…he was successful. (Please notice I described God as “he”…this is another post for another day!!)
For those of you who do not know, a love bug is by far the most menacing insect to Florida drivers. They are fly-like insects that are stuck together in their rear. For a couple months out of the year they float along roads and highways destroying the paint of every passer by. There are times when the road will be darkened by their overwhelming presence. There is no escaping them, they are constant nusance. Growing up I spent countless evenings cleaning them off the grills of my parents cars. I had forgettoen completely about them until the other day when they attacked my windshield.
When I was younger would separate them from each other. I now know that this is apart of their mating ritual and I was a straight player hatin on some poor love bugs, but this was payback for the countless hours I spent cleaning their cousins of the grill of a Volvo. What sweet irony that a “lovebug” is hated by all!!
